Franklin E. Loebe Recreation Center

Named for Franklin E. Loebe, who retired in 1994 after serving for almost 65 years as the village's treasurer, the recreation center is located across the lake to the northwest of the other two buildings.

These buildings are connected by a semi-circular covered walkway that bridges the lake. The vaulted roof over the main portion of the building reveals the location of a large gymnasium. The 34,000-square foot building also houses a running track, classrooms and meeting rooms, dance studios and wrestling rooms.

The function of the recreation center is less formal than the other buildings, and thus the architect located the building close to the woods, a hiking and biking trail, and ball fields. In addition, the recreation center's orientation at an angle to the other buildings emphasizes its informal nature and contrasts with the formal arrangement of the village hall, village green and civic center.
